Prerequisites

In order for VARS to run on your system you will need to install Java 5.0 or a more recent version of Java. VARS will not run on Java 1.4. Also, the Annotation application requires QuickTime for Java, which is not available for Linux. Therefore, the Annotation application will not run on Linux.

Detailed Instructions

The following steps describe the prerequisites for running VARS:

1. Installing Java
   Refer to you linux distributors documentation on installing Java 5.0. You can also download Java from http://www.java.com. Simply download the installer and run it.
2. Installing VARS
   You do not need to install VARS in order to run it. You can simply launch them from http://seaspray.shore.mbari.org/vars.
